Ok, today I tackled the Wiper issue!
I took the spare drivers mount that I had and:
1. Removed the Rubber thingy from the ball.
2. Removed the Plastic cover from the shaft.
3. Removed the clip on the bottom of the shaft.
4. Removed the shaft from the mount.
5. Set aside the spring washer and other washer.
6. Placed arm in vise and cut it in half in the middle. ( I used a thin blade in sawsall, but hacksaw will work)
7. Cut a small piece of 1/8+" flat bar to make an extender in the sawed off joint.
8. Used a set of vise grips to hold the three pieces together to tac weld it. I protected the ball and shaft from getting splatter from arc welder. I also remembered that the ball goes on the same side as the wiper arm when welding it back together.
9. Welded it up on both sides, ground down the welds, primed and painted it.
10. I cleaned up the mount which has a nylon bushing and O-ring.
11. Lightly greased the shaft and reassembled arm to mount.
12. Installed it on the car and road tested it. If you remove the two end keepers and three or so plastic pins across the front of the firewall, you can lift up the plastic screen to get at the mount bolts. I used a 1/4 ratchet and 10mm deep socket.
I need to drive in a really heavy rain to fully test this, but the wiper arm now stops well short of the window frame. In heavy rain after driving a while the wiper tends to overthrow, but I have lots of space now before it will hit.
So what did I really do? I lengthen the short arm on the drivers wiper mount. A longer lever there will cause the other end (AKA wiper) to travel a shorter arc. It did not take that much of difference on the short mount arm to effect a needed reduction in movement at the wiper it's self.
