After years of use the shifter, cables, and cable end links can become worn and dry. This is the second time I've done this and if its never been done on your car you should be able to feel the difference in how smooth the shifter feels.

What you need:

Phillips head screw driver

10-14mm wrenches/sockets

Pliers

A few old rags or something similar

Some grease for lubricating parts

INTERIOR:

First start by removing the center console, just set it to the side. You will see your shifter, you need to remove the cotter pins where the cables hook up to the shifter assembly slide the cables off of the shifter and the arm on the side. Now remove the 10mm bolt and nut going through the center of the shifter. Lift the shifter out and you will see that there are 2 10mm bolts holding metal plates on either side on, remove the bolts and you will have access to the central pivoting point. Take note of how everything comes apart so you can reassemble it correctly.

Now just take your grease and go medieval on it, use lots of grease. Then just put it back together.

Here's my shifter completed. Like I said lots of grease.

Now put grease on where the shifter cable slide on and also in the arm on the side of the shifter assembly that pivots. Next all you need to do is re-assemble.

Completed shifter.

Also smear grease onto the cables where they enter the sleeves. Afterwards just put the center console back on.

ENGINE BAY:

Find where the cables attach to the tranny, its on the passenger side of the engine bay under the intake. Then remove the cotter pins holding the cables on and be careful not to drop any of the plastic and metal bushings. Now smear plenty of grease on all the parts that move like you did with the interior. Then just re-assemble, get new cotter pins of yours are old and rusting.

After application of grease.

All done.
